Problem:

The world around us is full of signs to guide us around, as well as non-explicit ways of guiding us through a space. The goals of this project was to be aware of the signage. or lack there of, around us. We were to research and analyze the information design elements in informal settings and public spaces. Looking and developing awareness of user concerns while navigating through an unfamiliar place. Work as a team to create a multi-page document to illustrate the overall findings. 

Solution:

By noting navigational issues such as the signage, locations of elements, orientations of displays, naming conventions throughout the facility, consistency throughout the building and the layout of the building itself, we were able to come together and find inconsistencies and improvements that could be made to the Glenbow Museum. An example of these improvements included better signage and navigational cues when entering or leaving certain exhibits. 
I specifically took on floor 3, and the findings were more than expected. As a public place, you would think a museum, such as the Glenbow, would have great signage and wayfinding. This was not the case as exit signs lead to dead ends, signage that confused on what you were about to see, and the layout was confusing to casually walk through easily. 


Take Away:

Even though they are a large museum, every building has issues. There is always room for improvement, and being aware of the wayfinding around you can open your eyes to good ways, and bad ways of doing so.
